My Review : Doctor Strange (2016) #MajorSpoilerAlert

I’m satisfied with Benedict Cumberbatch’s acting and everyone in this movie!!

And for some people who didn’t know about Doctor Strange yet,
attention and take a note!
Actually, Doctor Strange has been making magic for over 53 years!. He is not a new comer or some people said, “He is a new thing from Marvel.”
So shut your mouth and read this bellow information!
According to Stan Lee, Stephen Vincent Strange first appeared in the July 1963 issue of the aptly titled Marvel Comics anthology “Strange Tales.” Spawned from an idea by legend Steve Ditko, Doctor Strange started out as a “5-page filler,” and returned for subsequent issues before receiving his own origin story in December of 1963.

It’s true that this is the first Marvel Cinematic Universe movie about magic. And yet, everyone love it. (at least i know i love it)

And for those people who are not understand about Marvel, and claimed to never see Doctor Strange before,
you need to know that although this will be his first outing in a solo movie, Doctor Strange has been teased in earlier movies:

-Thor (2011): The Orb of Agamotto can be seen among the treasures in Odin’s treasure chamber.

-Thor: The Dark World (2013): The Crossroads is among the various phrases written on Selvig’s chalkboard. The Crossroads is an other-dimensional reality that has a prominent role in the “Doctor Strange” comics.

-Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014): Jasper Sitwell mentions Stephen Strange as one of the high-risk targets that HYDRA keeps under surveillance.

According to IMDb’s page about this movie, whilst in his car before the crash, Strange is talking on the phone about a possible patient. He is as an Air Force pilot who broke his back whilst wearing experimental armor. This is describing Captain James Rhodes (War Machine) and his injuries sustained in Captain America: Civil War (2016).

And also, fyi…
Benedict Cumberbatch is the sixth Sherlock Holmes actor to appear in a Marvel feature. The first was Sir Christopher Lee who played Holmes in Sherlock Holmes and the Leading Lady (1991), and was the enemy in Captain America II: Death Too Soon (1979). Second, Jeremy Brett played Holmes in The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes (1984) and was in The Incredible Hulk: Of Guilt, Models and Murder (1978). Third, Robert Downey Jr. played Sherlock Holmes in the Guy Ritchie film series, and appeared as Tony Stark/Iron Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And also Sir Ian McKellen played Holmes in Mr. Holmes (2015), and appeared as Erik Lensherr/Magneto in the X-Men film series.

But, if you look more into this movie, you’ll see each “Doctor Strange” feature has starred a Star Trek actor: Michael Ansara, who was the Klingon Kang in Star Trek (1966), voiced the Ancient One (in an uncredited role) in Dr. Strange (1978). Jeffrey Combs, who has played various Star Trek roles, was Doctor Strange in Doctor Mordrid (1992) (a version with names changed). George Takei, who was Hikaru Sulu in Star Trek (1966), was Wong in Spider-Man: Sins of the Fathers Chapter 1: Doctor Strange (1996). Paul Nakauchi appeared in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine: The Homecoming (1993) and was Wong in Doctor Strange (2007). Kevin Michael Richardson, who voiced several aliens in Star Trek Into Darkness (2013), was Baron Mordo in Doctor Strange (2007). And Benedict Cumberbatch, who was Khan Noonien Singh in Star Trek Into Darkness (2013), stars in this film as Dr Strange.

So, it’s fun to know that this is actually a very big movie. LOL

For you who have watched this movie, you’ll notice there’s a scene where Doctor Strange is given the wi-fi password of “Shamballa”. This is a homage to the famous Doctor Strange storyline “Into Shamballa”… Well, the more you know.. 😀

There is a unique thing about The Eye of Agamoto, the Time Gem. It is actually one of the Infinity Gems. Yes.. for real!
Chronologically it is the fifth Infinity Gem to appear, after the Space Gem (the Tesseract from Captain America: The First Avenger (2011)), the Reality Gem (the Aether from Thor: The Dark World(2013)), the Power Gem (the Orb from Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)) and the Mind Gem (Loki’s scepter/Vision’s power source from The Avengers (2012)) and Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)).

And it’s literally can turn back the time, and that’s why using it is against the “Natural Law”. Master Mordo really hate the fact that Strange using what’s forbidden to balancing the world. According to the comic, Master Mordo maybe will become a main villain in the sequel.
So, it explain much at the very last on this movie, master Mordo walked away and leave Strange alone. And the fact that Kaecilius is nothing but a small villain makes me thrill for the sequel.

Before I continue talking about this movie, Marvel Comic fans are well aware of the relationship between Strange and the Scarlet Witch. The powerful, hex-throwing mutant, who is also known as Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen), becomes Strange’s apprentice in the MCU’s print universe. This has certain fans prepped for a Scarlet Witch appearance in the Doctor Strange, or a potential meet-up between teacher and student in Avengers: Infinity War. LOL It’s hard to be the witch because two of Infinity gems love her.

Tilda Swinton never stop to amaze me with her acting.
Well, in the comic, the Ancient One is a male. But in this movie, the Ancient One is rather just a title because Tilda is a female.
I love her acting, but i wonder why she always have this kind of character. She is like being nice in the beginning and start to make a plot twist near the end.
On Constantine (2005), when she play as Gabriel. We know Gabriel is good Angel. Once a good Angel. And on that movie, she is like being the devil in the end. Also in The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (2005), she played as White Witch who is very nice in the beginning, but killing everyone from the middle until the very end. She made another appearance in the sequel movie, The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian (2008).
She is a great actor afterall. Mostly i like her stoic face and her posture. Very cool!

Doctor Strange movie is really superb but i dislike the scene when Strange and Dormammu talk in the other dimenssion. The place look very strange. Colorful, but strange. Or it really is supposed to be like that? idk.
And for those people who has trypophobia, you should skip this scene. It’s really disturbing.

Overall, this movie is enjoyable since it has many hillarious scenes, like Deadpool’s movie.
When i watch it, i didn’t feel boring at all. Mostly i laugh, because Strange is very funny.
Trust me.
It’s really worth 115 minutes of your life!
The proof that Strange is rather crazy or has a strange mind, is on the scene when he tried to make Wong laugh at the library. Or when he came to Dormammu and do the “bargain” thing.
That’s hillarious!

Last, a friendly reminder, it’s a marvel movie.
You should find Stan Lee (and praise him!) LOL, and also, don’t leave the seat after the movie.
Wait for “after credit” scene.

Please don’t kill me..
I write #MajorSpoilerAlert on the title.
